Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars.
Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there.
After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive.
Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold 'human error' are much more likely to kill him first.
But Mark isn't ready to give up yet. Drawing on his ingenuity, his engineering skills - and a relentless, dogged refusal to quit - he steadfastly confronts one seemingly insurmountable obstacle after the next. Will his resourcefulness be enough to overcome the impossible odds against him?'

APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
While we love Ridley Scott's film version of The Martian, the story works even better as an audiobook. Andy Weir’s novel tells the story of stranded astronaut Mark Watney primarily through a series of mission log entries. With his gruff delivery, actor R.C. Bray sounds convincingly like a smart, smart-alecky astronaut explaining his singular circumstances as plainly as he can. Bray, as Mark, throws in a wealth of science facts like a brilliant teacher dropping interesting asides; that casual brilliance makes him an endearing hero that we’re completely invested in.
Audiobook no longer defective
I read the complaints others have made about the download being imcomplete, but decided to buy it anyway since those reviews were made about 2 yrs. ago, 'they had to have fixed the issue by now' being my thought process. The issue has indeed been fixed, & the book is an incrediable listen. I just wanted to let people know the audiobook works fine now & that you should get it as it's very well done, I look forward to future books from Andy Weir, as this one was simply just great!
Well worth it!
A great survival story with wonderful character development. This story focuses on the science of the fiction with loads of excitement and surprises that keep you guessing.
The protagonist is easy to relate to as well as care about, defiantly the Joe six pack astronaut. McGuyver meets Robinson Crusoe with a touch of Capt. Jack Sparrow.
Audiobook still defective
